So… did I miss anything?

After taking a 2+ month “spring break” from my blog, it’s time to jump back in again. The season seemed to fly by and now those of us in the northern hemisphere are about to welcome the official beginning of summer.

I used some of my hiatus decluttering and organizing, but most of it was spent traveling (more on that soon, but suffice it to say that it involved planes, trains, and several time zones).

Something I wouldn’t see again for over two months.

Back in late March, not only did I stop posting but I turned off all the blogs in my feed so I wouldn’t get post notifications. The upside was that I enjoyed a less crowded email inbox and lots of freed up time every day. The downside, of course, was that I missed the connections… after all, that’s why most of us blog, right?

I hope to re-connect with everyone soon, but it may take a while. When I temporarily turned off the blogs in my feed, I thought I would be able to easily switch all the “unfollows” back to “follow.”

Well, best laid plans and all that…

Unfortunately, my blogroll has now disappeared from my dashboard and I will have to recreate it the best I can. Looking on the bright side, it will give me a chance to make a few adjustments. So many blogs I was following (60+… yikes!) had become inactive or had content no longer relevant to me.

So… hello again. I hope spring was as enjoyable for you as it was for me. I am looking forward to catching up.

My blog is about travel, relationships, photography, and whatever else pops into my head (even, sometimes, issues surrounding retirement and aging).

  1. I was literally thinking of you just yesterday. Even thought about sending an email to check on you because I forgot you were taking a break. You didn’t miss anything from me, because I’ve also been traveling and have yet to blog about that or much of anything lately. Nice to have you back. The reason I was thinking about you is because we just book tickets to spend the 4th in one of my home towns in California (not San Diego though.) Looking forward to hearing about your travels!

      1. Funny you should say that Janis as I have my doors post ready for tomorrow — ThrowbackThursday meets Thursday Doors!

      1. I has been lovely. We traveled between Scottsdale and Prescott, since Prescott has a later spring than the valley. It’s beautiful here now. Again welcome back to the Cyberworld. 🙂

  2. Yay! You’re back!!! So, can I ask you how successful you were in your decluttering efforts? My intentions are good and I am making progress, but it seems like a slow go with everything else going on in our lives. I hope your travels were as enjoyable and refreshing as you hoped they would be!

  3. It’s always nice to land back home and pick up familiar routines. Decluttering our digital life is something I do regularly and it is surprising how much time we gain. Look forward to reading about your long journey in the coming weeks. Did you miss anything? Other than us probably just some colorful stories and photos with little tidbits of our lives beyond the digital world weaved in!

  4. Great to hear from you, Janis. I look forward to hearing about your travels! And I’d also like to hear about your decluttering and organizing journey. We’re deep in the process of our tiny home build, and the process is presenting many *opportunities* for figuring out how to best design our space, and what we truly want and need at this time in our lives!

    1. Your journey into the world of tiny homes was a big motivator for me. We won’t be moving anytime soon but, when or if it happens, I want the process to be easier. Better to do a little at a time. I am looking forward to catching up on your progress.

  5. Welcome back! I should clean out my “follows” too. Many of my old bloggers friends are no longer active. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Looking forward to your travel stories!

  6. Welcome back Janis! Hope you had a wonderful break and look so forward to hearing of your travels.💕

  7. I was just thinking about you yesterday – mostly because my own travel has amped up since March, music ops opened up since January and…I’m leaving for a mother/daughter trip for 5 days with middle daughter tomorrow. Relevant how? I haven’t packed for airline travel since prePandemic and there are tons of changes/tips that you already know about that I thought, ‘If Janis can do it – I can do it!’
    Welcome back!

      1. And living proof it can be done again! I used to be queen of inflight backpack, ukulele and overhead bin, too. But not sure I could wing it these days! This trip is a reintroduction to all the new-to-me sizes/restrictions etc and each airline has different ones, too! 😦
And away I go…Wish me luck!

  8. Glad you’re back. You didn’t miss much from me as my blogging has been extremely sporadic. And I didn’t even intentionally take a break!! I need to get my butt in gear, that’s for sure.

  9. Welcome back! Like you I was traveling for part of the time you were away. Unlike you I posted almost daily and uploaded photos almost straight in. We had a fabulous 👌 time in Europe on our bike and barge. I hope you also had an amazing time and I look forward to hearing about it. Hm… I guess you need to declutter your follow list and make decisions about who to follow! Bernie

      1. Read the last two called Bike off the Barge and Barge (with Bike). That gives the lay off the land and of course the food one!! OMG — such good food!!

  10. Welcome back! I can’t wait to read about your travels. As for your blog roll, I’m sorry you lost it, but I do think this could be a chance to “whittle it down” a bit. I’m following lots of blogs that don’t exist any longer, but I can’t seem to find time to “unfollow” them. And I have over 8,000 followers, of which I think maybe 300 (tops) actually read my blog. Cutting back to blogs I actually read and followers who actually read my blog would make a lot of sense!

  11. Good to see you in my Reader feed again!

What’s new? Let’s see: we got tired of Wisconsin, so moved further east and are now in Pennsylvania. Adopted a one-eyed skunk from a no-kill shelter. Tara found religion and joined a cult. Oh, and I was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers, so we’re kinda kicking ourselves for leaving WI now.

  12. Welcome back. You have not missed much from my blog. I have not posted much since I have been busy doing other things.

  13. Welcome back. I didn’t know you could turn off blogs in your feed (other than to simply unfollow everyone). You’ll get it sorted out and on the plus side, you can shed the ones that are no longer serving you. Looking forward to hearing about your travels.

    1. Well, I thought I could do that, but apparently not (at least for as long as I did). I’m just slowly refollowing blogs that “serve me” (bonus points if they comment on this post… which you did… so I’m off to refollow you 🙂 ).

  14. Hi Janis, Welcome back, it will be nice to read what you have been up to. I still visit often throughout the blogosphere…like you say, I greatly enjoy the connections. I look forward to catching up. xoxo 💕 Erica

  15. Hi, I happen to chance upon your blog today. Hope to read more about retirement life from you. I’m your fellow retiree from Singapore.

  16. I guess you and I both took a bit of a travel break. It was great. But trying to catch up is a bitch.

Can’t wait to hear about your travels.
