Beautiful!
The sky and clouds were amazing. Just as the sun set in the west, the eastern clouds behind the tufas (calcium carbonate deposits) lit up.
This picture is fantastic!
Thank you! We were so lucky that the fires to the southeast didn’t fill the sky with smoke.
Gorgeous!
I have wanted to visit Mono Lake for a long time, and we were so lucky to have perfect conditions when we finally made it.
It’s an amazing photo!
GORGEOUS!!!!
THANK YOU! 🙂
That is one amazing photo!
Thank you, Judy. The “tufa towers” formed under water by calcium carbonate deposits make the lake look other worldly.
I thought the clouds in the background were snowcapped mountains at first. How beautiful!
They do look like that! Of course, this time of year in California, snowcapped mountains are few and far between 🙂 I love how the setting sun lit the clouds up.
This photo is contest worthy. You really need to submit it!
You are so sweet, Donna. Maybe I’ll look into that.
So beautiful and great photo!
Have you been there, Tracy? It really is spectacular.
No, I haven’t. Will have to do on one of our road trips now that we are back West!
Spectacular
Thank you! I did a happy dance when I saw the clouds lite up.
Fabulous clouds!
They are lovely, aren’t they? As the sun continued to set, they got better and better.
That is a fantastic photo. I, too, want to go there someday.
I don’t know why it took me so long, but I was so thrilled to see it. Now, I just wish I had a different camera than my iPhone… next time. 🙂
That’s stunning!!!
Thank you, Bernie.
Stunning! Thank you for sharing, Janis 😍

I was thrilled to have a few images that I liked. I was so lucky to have those clouds light up after sunset.
I love the way you got that small rock centred in the gap in the rocks in the foreground. Such a refreshing photo full of beautiful colours, Janis.
Thank you, Hugh! Wordless Wednesday gives me the perfect opportunity to share a few photos from our trip.
Simply beautiful. I can’t wait to see and hear more about your trip.
I hope to do a write-up soon. It was a fun trip!
Hope you had a great trip. The photo is stunning!
Thank you, Lauren. We had a great trip, made more interesting by taking the EV. I will write about it soon.
Gorgeous photo. I’ve never heard of Mono Lake, but I can see why it was on your bucket list.
Mono Lake is close to Yosemite, so I think a lot of people bypass it on their way to the national park. I’ve always wanted to see it… and now I want to go back during a different season.
we lived in the bay area in the 1980s and “Save Mono Lake” was a big deal then. I’m so glad to see it still shines in all its glory…
There still are Save Mono Lake stickers and signs everywhere. Although LA restored some of the water they “borrowed,” the water is still not up to its normal level.
As soon as I saw the picture, I knew it was Mono Lake! Our #2 daughter worked there for two or three summers. I never went (Indiana to California is, as we say around where I grew up, a fer piece), but she showed us lots of pictures. 🙂
Oh, I bet that was an interesting job. They have a gorgeous new visitor’s center but, unfortunately, it was closed when we visited.
It must have been, since she returned. I loved the pictures!
What a beautiful place.
The formations look like they are from a different planet. Nature is amazing!
I love the things in nature and you are right that it is amazing.
What a striking contrast between sky, clouds, water and rocks!
What a gorgeous picture of Mono Lake, Janis. It’s amazing to see the lake in so many colors over the seasons. I used to have the Save Mono Lake bumper sticker BITD, and even did a couple of college papers on it in the early 1980s. Glad it’s a national monument and LA isn’t killing it by taking all the water away from it.
I understand that LA stopped taking the water and even had to return some (but not all). It would have been such a tragedy if we had lost such a beautiful and unique natural treasure.
Beautiful! Travel with grace. – Marty
Thanks, Marty!
Such vivid contrast between sky, clouds, water and rocks. Nice!
Thank you. I was so happy when I saw the sky light up like that.
That is so beautiful, Janis.
Thank you, Dan. It was a magical place, for sure.
That’s an incredible photo!
Thank you, Ann. Those clouds made the perfect backdrop.
That’s a lovely image and view of the lake and tufas! How exciting that you got to check this amazing place off your Bucket List!
Thank you. I don’t know what took me so long, but I was so happy to finally see the tufas for myself.
😀
Magnificent! In our family, we often talk about how what we see in nature is there, as it is, for just a brief moment in time. The light changes, the clouds re-form and what you were looking at will never return in exactly the same way again. You captured a magical moment, Janis. Nicely done!
You are so right. I thought the sun setting might turn the clouds red, but I wasn’t sure. In fact, I had started to walk away but looked over my shoulder one last time… that’s when I saw all the colors.
This is so beautiful Janis – the rocks up close and those up against the sky and those magnificent clouds. Glad you have fulfilled this bucket list item.
I’m not sure why I hadn’t been there before but I’m happy that we made the effort this time.
That was a gorgeous picture Janis.
Nice
Thank you.
Wow, Janis. You might have checked this one off your bucket list, but you added it to mine! What a gorgeous photo and interesting landscape.
I love adding to the bucket list of others… and adding to mine when I read about their adventures. I don’t know about you, but my bucket list never seems to empty.
Mine gets longer and longer too!
Wow This s a wonderful photo
